What this site is
Open Now Japan lists healthcare facilities, dental clinics and pharmacies in Japan that open outside normal weekday hours — evenings, early mornings, Sundays, public holidays and the New Year period. It is built entirely on open data published by the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.
During ordinary weekday hours there is no shortage of options. Outside them the picture changes: of 203,905 facilities nationwide, only 37,177 open outside normal hours. Showing where those are, using nothing but official data, is the purpose of this site.
It is written for people who are in Japan and need care now — residents and visitors alike. The English edition exists so that not speaking Japanese does not stop you finding somewhere that is open.

Nothing here is scraped, estimated or crowd-sourced. Where the source data is silent, so are we.
What is not included
- Telephone numbers — not present in the dataset. Use the map and official site links on each listing.
- Supported languages — the Ministry's own web search has this field, but the downloadable dataset does not, so we cannot filter by it.
- Municipal duty-doctor rotas — published separately by each municipality.
How current is it
The source data is refreshed twice a year, in June and December. Temporary closures, special New Year arrangements, relocations and closures are not reflected. Always contact the facility before visiting.
Advertising
This site earns revenue from advertising. Advertising has no influence on which facilities are listed or the order they appear in. Ordering is determined solely by closing time and by the number of facilities per municipality.
Corrections
If you find an error, please get in touch. Note that our listings mirror the government dataset, so a permanent correction usually requires the facility to update what it reports to its prefecture.
